St. Francis Xavier Catholic School congratulates the 8th Grade class of 2024!

St. Francis Xavier (SFX) Catholic School 8th Graders graduated on Tuesday after a special Mass at SFX Catholic Church.

SFX Pastor Fr. Joe Culotta, V.C., led the Mass, which parents, parishioners, and other students attended.

This year’s graduates included:

  • Joseph Sebastian Cannova

  • William David Driver

  • David Alexander Esparza

  • Simon Theodore Briguez Jabines

  • Angel Bernardo Juarez

  • Cristian Salvador Giovanni Martinez

  • Angel Manuel Mateo

  • Delia Josephine Osbun

  • Eden Grace Robinson

  • Alan Rodriguez Blancas

  • Andrew Thomas Smitherman

  • John Andrew Sransky

  • Lila Hope Thompson

  • Maria Isabella Valdovinos 

  • Allison Vidales Pina

  • Izzabelle Jones Whaley

Along with diplomas, SFX School also issued several awards to 8th graders, including the Christian Leadership Award, which went to Smitherman. Smitherman served as president of the SFX Student Council this school year.

  • St. Thomas Aquinas Religion Award: Cannova

  • St. Elizabeth Ann Seton History Award: Robinson

  • St. Augustine Latin Award: Sransky

  • St. Cecilia Music Award: Whaley

  • Pope St. John Paul II Mathematics Award: Thompson

  • St. Francis of Assisi Science Award: Smitherman

  • St. Catherine of Bologna Art Award: Osbun

  • St. Isidore of Seville Technology Award: Jabines

  • St. Sebastian Physical Education Award (Male): Esparza

  • St. Sebastian Physical Education Award (Female): Pina

Osbun, Valdovinos, Robinson, and Whaley all received certificates of service for serving as altar servers during the 2023-2024 school year.

Several students received gold or silver honor roll for the 4th Quarter and the entire 2023-2024 school year.

After graduates received their diplomas, SFX Principal Mary Paige Griffin recognized teachers who have reached significant milestones in service to the Diocese of Birmingham. 

Ms. Ayded Martinez (PreK3), Ms. Alexis Osbun (PreK4), Ms. Emily Holt (Kindergarten), Ms. Erin Ludwick (Music), and Ms. Nancy Rohling (4th Grade) all received certificates for five years of service to the Diocese. 

Ms. Patty Rudnicke (Art & STEAM) received a certificate and a gift for 30 years of service. 

After the ceremony, 8th graders were dismissed for the summer. PreK and Kindergarten students will be dismissed after their programs on Wednesday. Students in the 1st through 7th Grades will be dismissed after another special Mass on Friday morning.

Returning students will come back to campus on August 7 to kick off the 2024-2025 school year!
